In “Beartown,” Backman writes something to the effect of “you never have friends like you did when you were fifteen.” I remember reading that and feeling like that was a loaded statement and he would likely have a story centered on teenage friendships someday. This is that story and I have to say, the whole story hinging on two MASSIVE coincidences makes it sort of hard to believe.
