This book was given to me as a gift and when I received it I thought it was fiction similar to THE SON, but it is not. It is a well-researched history of Roger Hodge's family for seven generations. A pleasant surprise and a good read.

This is the first book I ever read without chapters, but it in no way inhibits the reading process. An excellent book.

Momaday's use of the language is awesome. He uses the exactly correct words in every poem.

Viet Nam was my war and I thought I knew a great deal about it, but I didn't know how much money we invested in supporting France before they left, and how much more we spent on the Diem dictatorship. Unbelievable!

I am a fan of Treuer's work and find this book interesting as well. He doesn't just matter-of-factly discuss conditions on the reservations but uses stories and antidotes about life on HIS reservation. I highly recommend this book.

Much that I had credited Tecumseh for in trying to forge a pan-Indian alliance, Blue Jacket had already achieved decades before. A well-researched history of early American and Indian relationships.

An excellent story about the life of a contemporary Northern Cheyenne woman raised on the reservation in Montana. She was born poor with
a strong family influence, worked hard, got an education and became successful.
