This is really not doing it for me so far

“The Rostovs' son-in-law, Berg, was by now a colonel, with the orders of Vladimir and Anne on his neck, and was still filling the same comfortable and agreeable post of assistant to the head of the staff of the assistant of the chief officer of the staff of the commander of the left flank of the infantry of the first army.”
Lol

I’m shocked that an author can include Botox so prominently in a book and not know that it doesn’t work immediately.

I’m interested at this point in who the killer is but I’m hating reading this so much that I’m contemplating dnf’ing and just looking up spoilers.

This is written like the author was bullied by every single woman she ever met and she’ll never let it go

Uh oh! This is written so poorly. We may have another YA for adults on our hands. I already hate it- “us spooky types” ???? Be so for real are you not like other girls or what??
Anyway I’ll give it one more chapter before I dnf but it’s not looking good.

I feel comfortable skipping these hunting chapters altogether. Though I do appreciate that Tolstoy himself did eventually give up hunting and became a vegetarian.

Well I guess I’m not the only one to think of it, after all

I started reading these books in 1996 and it took me until *right now* to think of this so take it with a grain of salt, but..Why not let the yeerks, the actual slugs, touch the cube and get stuck in a body of their choosing? If they want to be human they could do it Ax-style, getting several humans dna and blending it to a new, unique human. And then they wait with them the two hours and that’s it, problem solved.

This is reading very YA so far, which I hate. If your main character is 24, fine, but this one is 26, which is pushing it for me.

If your buddy writes a book you read it right away, I don’t make the rules

Rostov 100% would’ve run a stan account for the Tsar on tumblr

Does it make me soft or hard that I hope the next deaths belong to the men who hunt for sport?

I just wanna say, I’d have been done with this days ago if I didn’t just get a new kitten :)

“Nothing is so necessary for a young man as the society of clever women."

Unsure if this is what I need to be reading in the days before a giant winter storm when we’re almost guaranteed to lose power but okay

Mentally this girl is exactly who I was at 24 if I hadn’t waited until 30 to identify as gay

Slow reading for all of 2026, one chapter a day

Two pages in and I already hate it

*anxiously googles Patricia Briggs’ race* she’s white 😩

Should’ve read “for fans of the atlas six” before picking this up. This is already so bad.

I don’t remember any of this but wow it’s real fuckin weird so far

This has such good ratings but I’m already looking at reviews to see if anyone else found it boring 😩

Has Marco’s mom ever been aged before?? Seeing her described here as “thirty something” was kind of a gut punch, not gonna lie lmao

😩 can’t believe I just cried about a unicorn at lunch

Having an American character (I assume they’re American because the ship sets out from New York and there aren’t any extra letters being used) say “straightaway” is a dead giveaway the author is not American, lol

SHAME ME

current physical tbr: 569 (out of 843)

This is not marketed as YA but it is very much written like it is. :/

Cassie is an only child! What niece!
