humorous macbeth adaptation where this dinner has the vibe of the satc dinner party with the cardboard baby

i must say it is refreshing to read a scifi written by someone who no only seems to know a lot about science (many sci fi authors do not…?) but also history, myth cycles, religion, writing generally, etc. it is a much more satisfying read.

1) great book for the history/bio people (me) 2) gonna sound insane but reading this after reading all the 9/11 25th anniversary stuff yesterday is kinda adding something to the tone. idk.

i actually like how frank’s death is set up a lot more in the book, but also i wonder what it says about cultural shorthand/cultural thoughts about reconstruction in the 30s that it didn’t have to be set up so explicitly in the movie. or maybe i’m reading into something that is really just “well this movie is already 3 hours long”

kinda wild to say about this book in particular but that was the most insane chapter in this book

kinda locked in on the banquo macbeth friendship this go around. what’s going on in there.

I’ve forgotten that one of the things i love about this play is all the contradictions, with the fair/foul & things that seem corporeal not really being so. And I love the interaction between macbeth & banquo here bc they seem like friends. like the “your children shall be kings” “you shall be king” is how besties talk to each other after hearing something insane.
