I love how even though this is a survival book, there is still a hint of mystery because of the secret. The book constantly mentions this secret that Brian knows about and it gives you enough hints that you can start to theorize what it might be, but you are never certain so it gives you a reason to read on to try and figure it out.

"His eyes snapped open, hammered open, and there were these things about himself that he knew, instantly." (Paulson 43)
The author has a way of drawing you at the beginning of a chapter and getting you hooked. This is super effective and makes me want to read more and more of the book.

This book so far has had really great pacing! It's the perfect mix between fast paced to keep the reader hooked, and slow paced to keep the book detailed. With such good pacing, it's easy to get hooked, and I can't wait to read more!

I love the opening of this book. Right from the beginning you are given multiple things to grasp onto. Brains relationship with his parents and the divorce, the mystery about the plane, the weird pilot. All of these things are given in the first 3 pages of the book and it's great.

I love every single poem in this book. Everything is so original and creative. It's so weird but in a good way. I can't wait to finish it!
