This book has exhausted me to the point where I have considered unlearning my reading skills if at all possible. For the time being I will put it away and do my best to pretend that it does not exist. Hopefully I can pick it up again sometime next year 'cause I really need to know what happens and I cannot explain satisfactorily what the hell it is that I am experiencing. Bye now.

Second Arabesque... (Kress)
Almost did not make it through this one. It was so goddamn stupid. The world described made absolutely no sense. There is no way things would ever turn out like this! I am quite pissed off about it really. Authors who make up unbelievable future societies like this just because it is "scary". Oh, and the story itself is very silly. All in all probably a good thing I'm out of roo

The hands that are not there (Snodgrass)
I enjoyed this one. The world was very vivid. I could see myself spending more time there. And the plot was interesting. The story in the story form bugged me a bit but I guess there was a point to it in the end. Think I might check out what else Melinda Snodgrass has written.

Wrestling Jesus (Lansdale)
I think I liked this one. It was kind of stupid and pointless but quite entertaining at the same time. Sweet characters. I did not love the the ending though. I dunno. It's hard saying anything meaningful really. And do life feel more pointless now after reading this story? I think it might. May be in a mood.

The girl in the mirror (Grossman)
I have not read The Magicians but this was perfectly readable on it's own. A plus. Other than that I don't have much to say. It was pretty boring. The writing made me sleepy but actually I might just have been tired. The plot and characters were uninteresting and bland. I was expecting something a bit more edgy from Grossman I guess. Anyways.

Name the beast (Sykes)
So this was a mess. There may have been an interesting story in here somewhere (I kinda got Prey-vibes) but the structure did not work and the writing was convoluted. The story was confusing and not in a paid off in the end kind of way. I think this might be a case of giving us too little information to work with. Among other things. It also felt quite gimmicky.
5/10 - is that too generous?

Shadows for Silence... (Sanderson)
Been putting this off (because LONG!!) but decided to get it over with. Loved the story. It was fast paced and intense. Silende was awsome. LOVED the world. Would love to read more stories set here. All in all everything you could expect from the master of epic fantasy. And turns out he is perfectly capable of writing great stories that are not a billion pages long!

I knoe how to pick 'em (Block)
Mainly read this because it was short. Don't know Block. Liked the way he writes. The story... Less so? I dunno, it was pretty f-ed. Was really impressed by his character work though. Making such good and intense characters in such a short time is definitely not easy. And it kept me interested all the way through.

Neighbors (by Lindholm)
Robin Hobb is an absolute master of making her readers hurt. I had to stop reading The Farseer-trilogi because it was just so goddamn frustrating and painfull (gave up on it a couple of times for that reason actually). Her writing is excellent. Neighbors was excellent. Did not expect it to be a story about getting old (and being trated as such). It was so very frustrating and refreshing.

Raisa Stepanova (Vaughn)
I do not know Vaughn but this was good with great writing, good characters and an engaging story. I don't think it gets much better than this in this format. It was about a russian girl fighting in WW2, I.e. so not my kind of story, which is why I can "only" rate it

Some Desperado (Abercrombie):
Abercrombie is an excellent writer, with a flair for action and a great sense of humor. I wish I liked his stories better but I generally find them too dark and cynical. This one was fun, though. I enjoyed it. Good thing it wasn't any longer, too.

Bombshells (by Butcher)
Definitely need to have read Dresden to enjoy this. Luckily I remembered enough to get by and I was entertained. I kind of remembered Molly as being cooler, though. And I liked the story but was not very impressed. Still not really a fan of the short (long?) story format in general. Oh well. This made me want to get caught up on my Dresden Files at least.
