Enjoying Stephen King a lot more than expected. My husband is a bit disappointed I am less creeped out by the book than he. Maybe it's because I listen during daylight hours in the car or while during chores. If it was a long, empty road through a forest or the country at twilight, I'd be telling a different story.

I can't believe Forstchen is a best-selling author. The writing is so...so...blah. And these are some of his favorite turns of phrase, appearing possibly once per page. At least every couple of pages. Hard to tell when it's narration.

So...I may be too tired or mathematically disinclined to understand a good chunk of what's being said in this book...

Listening to the audio version. The narrator could be better. I've stuck it out for curiosity's sake. Somehow, the giant climatic battle slipped on by (meaning summarized after the fact, so a HUGE amount of telling) and there's still 2 hours remaining!

I'm going to be disappointed. I feel it in my readerly bones. Boy desperately wants to save family. Boy meets girl. Boy gets distracted by wanting to kiss girl. Boy kisses girl.

Girl is only slightly better, except she ENJOYED the kiss. Forgot about her personal tragedy for a moment.

I really hope June stays hard and bad through this book. None of the seeing the other side of the picture and converting to whatever Day's cause is. Pretty pretty please.

A Gail Carriger recommendation.

So, there was a rape scene. Icky. Icky. Icky.

Unimpressed with the first sentence. Reading because it is one of my neighbor's favorite books and she let me borrow her copy. Simply written. It'll be read quickly, if nothing else.

Walking outside my regular zone with this audiobook. Was available and I needed a new book. Into part 2 so far and enjoying it rather a lot. I like being read to.

NOS4A2 is part of my quest to experience books without reading their description. Well, I probably read this description some year or more ago, so it hardly counts. Creepy stuff so far. Kate Mulgrew does a great job narrating. I was worried I'd have Captain Janeway stuck in my head. Mulgrew's proving me wrong as she brings the narrative to chilling life in my ears.

Did a little happy dance to find the audio MP3 available for checkout from the library. I own the hardcover, but find them tricky to read while driving, working out, and doing chores. Plus, I absolutely love Moira Quirk's narration. SQUEE!

Likely finished with this book. I'd like to try S.M. Stirling's story. If I can find it in the MP3 version without too much trouble.

Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. There are far too many male protagonists in this collection and too few female protagonists doing the self-rescuing princess thing. I'm on story 8 of 21 and 3 of them have starred men. I'd only classify 3 of the female based stories as featuring strong women. Jim Butcher rocked it with Molly, Andy (female), and Justine doing the strong women thing, as did Carrie Vaughn's "Raisa Stepanova".

Finished "My Heart is Either Broken” by Megan Abbot. Hard boiled noir. I'd love to read some of her other works. I failed to clearly see how this story fit the anthology's theme, especially after the introduction. Husband is the POV character. Wife's behavior -- possibly unreliable -- failed to read as strong or dangerous. Ending left me unsatisfied.

Oh. Dear. The author narrates the audio version. He sounds. Bored. And. Like. Mr. William Shatner as. Kirk. Or he has small lung capacity. Or maybe the sentences really are that short.

I'm a bit intrigued by the writing style. Threw me at first. Getting the hang of it.

Enjoying the audio version of the hardback sitting on my shelf. Must say, the narrator is FABULOUS. I need this re-read terribly, as times have been tough for me recently, and Gail always manages to deliver wit, humor, and heart. So, into the Finishing School series for time number 2.

About 25% through. Is this an example of the unreliable narrator? Right now, that is my biggest question regarding Nick Dunne, husband who speaks falsehoods to the police.

I'm really struggling to care about the characters and plot. I skimmed a few reviews of Basket Case and am concluding this might not be his strongest work. The sub-plot between Jack and Emma was obvious from the first utterance of her name. Whether I finish listening or not...it will be a critical review. I will give him a second chance, though with a different title.

A little over 50% through on this one. Can't decide if my lackluster response is due to the narrator of the MP3 book or the writing. I'm not laughing as much I'd hoped. Truthfully, I've laughed more reading Gail Carriger and Jim Butcher, neither of whom are shelved as "humor".

Finally getting around to Hiaasen. A friend recommended his work upon hearing of my fondness for one Mr. Dave Barry. Hiaasen, she claims, is funnier.

Grrrrr. Plotholes. Facepalms. Even one "SERIOUSLY?!"
