Reading the line "sometimes there's, like, leaves and things in the mouth", spoken by coroner Lamar, is even funnier when you read it in the voice of the actor who plays him in the film. Unexpectedly made me laugh while reading what is otherwise a very serious chapter.

Chapter 1:

The first couple of lines IMMEDIATELY drew me in. Incredibly relatable so far, in terms of the concept of "masking"; as a young neurodiverse child I unknowingly masked, and I did it again as a queer teenager.

Finding Mishima's writing style a little hard to follow, though not sure if this is just due to translations.

"You haunted me more persistently than I imagine any ghost ever could." oh my GOD. THE YEARNING

The way Kang writes, in first person, the experience of struggling to speak, is really resonating with me. The mild aphasia that comes with having ADHD and a brain that runs a mile a minute is all-too familiar. Even though it's not stated what the protagonist in this story struggles with, the description alone is so in line with my own frustrations when words, quite literally, fail me.
