That chapter 4 was so blatantly autobiographical, pat myself on the back, aren't I clever, it was painful to read.

So far, so bad. Fayre (or however you spell that name) is a complete and utter self-absorbed ass, with zero curiosity about anything other than herself. The High Fae (what there is of it) are a couple of horny teenage boys (who are immortal, so permanently teenagers?) with mood.

Really liking the writing style. The characters are interesting enough (and make me realize that people really have not changed at all in the last 80-odd years). The precocious 6 year old though... She is driving me Mad and I am skimming her parts now. I don't care how much of a genius your kid is, do not let a 6 (or was it 4) year old read Melville and Nabokov.

Not a fan of the narrator so far (comes across as a stereotypical millenial influencer), but will keep going (reading challenge book).

I want to like the book, I really do. But. The author is a 21st century American Liberal, trying to sound like a 20th century Brit and the American is starting to win.

So hard to get into - in part because like every other Russian book ever, it just drops you in the middle and expects you to get on with it, in part because it reads like a translation from English (the terminology, the obvious parallels between colonial era London and Rapgar, the names). The mysteries are still intriguing, though, and the writing (thou derivative) is decent enough to keep going.

The outback has more features than this book. I don't know why I'm still reading - the mystery was lost in the bush some time ago.

Are we there yet? The bits of Northern Irish history are interesting, as is the so far secondary mystery. The characters and the primary mystery, however, are flat, a bit boring, and completely not engaging.

20 supposedly highly-trained security guards and 6 cops do a sweep of a boat and don't check the closets? Seriously? At this point, I'm hoping the killer isn't who I think it is, and I'm more interested in the Monkeewrench people than in the mystery.
