- the author is a rich white redhead from New Haven, Michigan just like her protagonist Clare, self insert toxic romance fantasy 1000
- she does such a disservice to Chicago writing negative shit about any neighborhood that isn’t rich and white as a place you’ll get jumped or raped, eg: she wrote this about Humboldt park and Roger’s park
- meanwhile her privileged rich white main characters are horrible people

9 yr old me is really glad 24 yr old me is picking up this classic back up again :’)

it’s finally clear to me why this tightly woven tediously pretentious chronicle, empty of compelling characters and heart, is quite a drag to read. It’s cause there are no real stakes worth caring about. Not curious or compelled about their mistakes or futures or pasts cause the stakes and souls and events of the characters feel crushingly empty and pointless
