it’s finally clear to me why this tightly woven tediously pretentious chronicle, empty of compelling characters and heart, is quite a drag to read. It’s cause there are no real stakes worth caring about. Not curious or compelled about their mistakes or futures or pasts cause the stakes and souls and events of the characters feel crushingly empty and pointless
