This book seems to get a love or hate response so I'm curious to see why it's so polarizing.

So apparently the library has a "skip the line" copy which you can get by the luck of the draw. This book has something like 375 people waiting for it, so when this one became available to me, I borrowed it right away. Only to find out it's 28 HOURS LONG and I only have four days left to read it. I'm crying. RIP all of my free time this week.

I'm so tired of reading this. So, so tired. I feel like I can't give up purely because I want to be able to count it towards my reading goal. But it's soooooooo bad, especially after reading something like Mister Impossible.

This one is dense but it has had a big affect on a lot of my thinking about activism and just human value in general. Especially the earlier chapters.

I am enjoying reading this so much. It's equal parts balm to the soul and surprisingly fun and entertaining. It makes me cry complicated tears nearly every time I pick it up. A thread of loss weaves through many of the poems so they never feel purely joyful, or purely one thing. The best things in life are complex.

I had been having a hard time finishing this one because it's so grim, but it's taken on a whole new significance now we are in the middle of a pandemic, so I'm off to the races again!

This book has completely captivated me. It reminds me of all my favorite things about Donna Tartt's A Secret History. Only a 3rd of the way through and things have really escalated so wondering where things are going from here. It's the perfect combo of the best and worst of humanity. I'm loving it.

Reading a 2nd time for book club and taking notes this time. I find that I sort of have to slog through it because I find it painful to read. He is so good at using words to lay bare the blatant racism and injustice in our country's past and present that it is difficult to read. To read this is to sit in supreme unease and to feel grieved and yet it feels so absolutely necessary and urgent, I can't put it down.

God this book is so good. Rowling is such a good writer - I shouldn't be surprised but I am! The way Strike and Robin both navigate and in some cases completely disreguard social convention brings them startlingly to 3 dimensional life and I love every minute of it. Also murder is fun. I'm hardcore shipping them right now and holding out hope.

For real enjoying this one. Something dark at the heart of the book but strangely never seems to totally go there. Not sure if that's because it's a YA book, or because it's leading up to a very sinister ending.

Thoroughly amused so far. I didn't realize this is actually a collection of tumblr posts but the format totally works. My favorite so far:

PATRON: Where are your books on action?
ME: By “action” do you mean like martial arts, that kind of thing?
PATRON: No, I mean like . . . [mumbles]
ME: I’m sorry, I didn’t hear that, what did you mean?
PATRON: [loudly] Murder!

I don't like this book and I'm tired of reading it. But I'm so desperate to finish my goal and I've spent enough time on it that I am going to read it through to the end. I should have known from the cover that it would be crap!

It's not very good. A murder mystery where the murderer is discovered halfway through the book? How in the world is she going to keep me entertained in the next half when there are only 3 fully formed characters and I only care about 1.5 of them?

Ok so I have no idea if I will actually like the book, BUT it was the concept of the book that hooked me. I love this idea she is exploring of re-entering your own life with a tabula rasa. Seeing your family, your friends, yourself, from an entirely new perspective. Seeing things more objectively, and learning about yourself via other people. Can't wait to see if she delivers on a great story too.

Some part of me thought that I would not enjoy Jane Eyre, which is why it has taken me so long to read it. (I'm not a huge fan of Wuthering Heights). But man, its so good! And dare I say....a page turner? Never would have expected that.

This is not a book I would normally ever read but I am enjoying a lot so far! Thanks to Eileen for the rec! My only complaint is after having listened to Saoirse Ronan talk a whole lot and watched almost every movie Cillian Murphy has been in, it is apparent that the narrator for young Vivian/Dorothy/Niamh is really struggling to do an Irish accent. Its like she remembers to "go Irish" every 3rd vowel sound.
