Gleaning a lot of beautiful things from Eckhart concerning a life lived in union with God. Some of this is indeed tough to truly grasp as I think Eckhart is expressing things that are generally beyond words, but if you have glimpsed the beauty of Christ and Him in you, much of Eckhart will sound familiar to you.

Fascinating Emily had a mind for such a story. It's quite good, albeit not what I would typically find myself reading, it's certainly keeping my interest. Heathcliff is something. You can take the gypsy out of the caravan but apparently the caravan clings tightly to the gypsy.

Brilliant. Funny. Solemn. Convicting. Kierkegaard was right. Can only imagine what he would say of us today in the west, calling ourselves Christians.

What good are city walls? Jesus takes no part in the city. He rejects her money, arms. sciences. He ignores the capital and the progress of civilization. He knows that the only legitimate rest is found in confidence in God. He knows that if he accepts man's wandering, he is building the kingdom where man will finally be able to come home from his millennial flight and find his full development in truth.”

Ellul is just fantastic. He's rapidly becoming the extra-biblical author who's been most beneficial to my life and growth.
