This novel reminds me of various post-apocalyptic and sci-fi stories: the Mad Max movies, the video game series Fallout, Ray Bradbury’s book-burning classic Fahrenheit 451. Already I’m pulled into the world of these burlap-ragged monks who are ‘bookleggers’ and ‘memorisers’, trying to preserve ancient knowledge after nuclear disaster. Very imaginative and thought-provoking

Really quite interesting

A pleasant find that shows the Japanese Sengoku era through the eyes of one of its most famous women, Hosokawa Gracia. While this is definitely a Christian, female author’s novel, it has all the tension and suspense of stories by male writers in the genre. I’m enjoying it a lot

So far I’m enjoying Justin Brierley’s book on his Christian faith. Multiple viewpoints are covered including atheism and humanism, so he can line up counter-arguments to his own views before addressing them. He says: ‘We still experience that desire for something more than this world can give us’. This searching for faith after being nearly drowned by the world is certainly something many seem to be feeling.
