Fascinating, especially the Norse ghost story.

Chapter Six: Saving Souls, Not Bodies covers a lot of ground, but the one aspect that stuck out to me the most is how elite Whites in Virginia drove a wedge between landless Whites and enslaved Black people by offering privileges, including pardons after Bacon’s Rebellion, to the former but not the latter. This was a means of ensuring the two groups would not join again in support of a common goal.

Very illuminating so far. I had never thought of the different ideologies and approaches to racism as being three-pronged in the way Mr Kendi describes: racist, assimilationist, and antiracist, but upon reading this portion of the book it seems almost self evident.
