The lovely advice to a woman who keeps being pushed away by the man she loves is to "fight for him". Fight who? How? By continuing to let him get away with his shitty behaviour? By letting him use her for sex, insisting she trust him, and not returning that trust? You cannot force someone to be with you.

If only one person is fighting for a relationship, neither person wins.

I hate female authors who make their female characters sexless doormats. Ridley supposedly has her life together, it's too bad she has no self respect. Disgusting.

Kudos to the author for including a trans character. Shame on the author and editor for continuing to use the character's birth sex after stating their authentic self (in the most awkwardly phrased way possible, too).

The wedding party has just released "dozens of white balloons" in memory of the bride's father. This is an environmental disaster waiting to happen. The deflated balloons get eaten by fish and sea birds. This book is so full of white privilege it's not even funny.

Ryder is calling Mac as "...the sun was starting to set in the late afternoon sky." Without knowing the time of year, let's assume 4 or 5pm. Mac is in England and is therefore seven hours ahead. Mac says he's "done for the day" (referring to work) but in actual fact it would be 11 or midnight there. I really HATE when an author is too lazy to convert time and the whole world seems to run on the same clock.

Casey was looking after her friend Julie's baby daughter when Ryder shows up at her office. He thinks the baby is hers, and she realises this and uses it as a way to keep distance. Then they're touring the venues. What happened to the baby? Wouldn't he have figured it out when Julie came back to get her? Sloppy.

Something I noticed: every time they start to have sex, Savannah says, "Don't stop!" Like, immediately. He slides a finger inside her "Don't stop", he slides his dick inside of her "Don't stop". Why? There is NO indication that he's considering stopping, so why say that?

Other books have "Oh yes" "Just like that" "More please" but this girl thinks he's going to stop mid-fuck? I just don't get it.

Two percent later and they FINALLY get around to discussing the situation.

So at 56% they discover that someone made a crucial mistake in their fire investigation and then ... it's ignored? By 64% there's been no follow up, no passing on to higher ups, no confrontation with the investigator. Are you kidding me?

Getting locked in a library is not, IMO, an emergency situation. I would think a firefighter would know better than to use 9-1-1 instead of calling the non-emergency number. (I mean, they don't actually go through with the call for reasons, but still.)

Savannah asks a question to which she receives a half-assed answer; she follows up and gets even less information. So she assumes he's got a problem with her gender and he snaps that she shouldn't make assumptions, that she should ask questions and listen to the answers. Uhm, she did, jackass. You can't blame your lack of clarity on her. Gah!

Bobby and Teagan walk along the beach to the restaurant. He offers to go back to his place to get the car so she won't have to walk home on a full stomach. She says she's looking forward to the walk back. Then when they stop dancing, he suggests it's time to "start heading back to the car." Where is the editor for this book?!

Timeline is off. Teagan is 27 and her fiance has been dead for six years. They met when she graduated from college and they dated for three years. Math is not my strongest subject and even *I* know that's wrong.

Looks like it's a formatting issue. No breaks between scenes. Ugh.

Another completely ridiculous situation, seemingly added for no purpose other than to be humiliating to Finley.

Finley, btw, goes through so many emotions on every page let alone chapter, she comes off as slightly unhinged. This book is seriously pissing me off.

Starting at 37% there is a sequence of events that is not only juvenile in its humor, it serves no purpose other than to embarrass Finley. You know exactly how it's going to play out (not in her favor) and it was quite uncomfortable to read. I find "bathroom humour" the lowest form of entertainment. Something like this has no place in the rich tapestry of Penny Reid's universe. Absolutely disgusting & disappointing.

For the love of all that's holy ... now they have piercings? No mention of obtaining them, but they weren't mentioned in the first steamy scene. Ugh.

Sweet baby cheeses. They're having unprotected sex?! She has to be the stupidest single mother on the planet! Seriously considering abandoning this travesty.

She wants to protect her heart and her daughter, and yet she's just told her daughter that the strange man who just called for the first time might be her boyfriend?! AW HELL NAW!

Could have used another pass by an editor if there was one. Ryn is told to expect another customer but she acts like she's surprised when Slade shows up.

Slade has seen Ryn a few times at the parlor, so why has he decided now that he has to have her.

Practically the first sentences of the story are about how much he likes to fuck different women, now suddenly it's "not as many as you'd think I have"? What?

Are you kidding me? Jamie just dropped a bombshell on who his secret friend is, and now he's saying that Tom is his only friend? These people are the worst.

These are adults, right? Because they are behaving like teenagers with all the drama and sad longing and not talking openly and honestly. And they're just getting together now? Ugh.

So looking forward to this book and so disappointed. They just talk circles around each other and never actually say anything. Darcy is unlikable, Jamie sounds atrocious, and everything is ridiculously over the top. Tom is the only good thing, but he needs to grow a pair and just TELL HER.

It's like Book #7 didn't happen. Everything is about the work Amelia did for the Death Lords keeping Wrecker's prison sentence to a minimum. Nothing about Mrs. Trainor's murder and Schmidthead trying to frame Wrecker for the murder. Very disappointing.
