Jesse Walter’s rocks. He can write intriguing, character driven books about any idea. This book helped me learn about extremist evangelical Christian churches with some deeply disturbed members. It was basically a family drama, with the theme of good vs. evil, with lots of grey situations to ponder.

At first, I thought this book was rather ridiculous, because as an active 70 year old, I could not buy the ageism so blatant. I guess the author doesn’t know any 70 year olds. However, minus that gripe, the characters grew on me and I ended up loving the story. Listening to this book was a delight because of Michael Urie’s narration. 3-1/2 stars rounded up to 4.

A crazy ride. Kept my interest. The author is unbelievable knowledgeable about so many topics: gardening, surveillance, New Zealand law, etc. Some parts of it were so intuitive and helpful in regard to my relationships with friends. The character studies demonstrated great intuition. I understand the author had no choice regarding the ending, by the way she developed the plot, but I still felt so let down.
