I like that the story is moving between past and present and we understand who is who by paralleling their present self/actions to the past

I adopted a puppy with a brindle coat (may be a mix with a greyhound) and we named her lila (don't even have to tell you why). no idea how much she'll grow bc she was abandoned so they only knew an estimation of her age

in the Library trilogy I underlined a lot of philosophical passages (they are important to me and the way to my heart as a reader). Looks like I'll underline more in this new book. My fav so far is the one about human lives being like the waves

the convo between the emperor and jinshi in the shrine about making maomao a consort and his request to have maomao help jinshi solve the riddle says a lot. the emperor is appraising maomao bc he noticed that jinshi is interested in her and this riddle scene showed jinshi's 'future' if he took on his role someday. anyone can see how smart and capable maomao is and would be as a ruler

I should ask myself why my fav characters are always genderqueer or crossdress for funsies

the ritual scene is better in the anime bc we see it from jinshi's pov and it's shown how he dgaf that he's carrying an injured maomao who is his servant, considering WHO he is. the girl just saved his life
