content wise: i liked you’re not listening so much more than the topic of think again. his argument of rethinking seems like common sense.

speaker wise: you’re not listening reads like a research paper. lots of statistics. the evidence in think again is woven in more w his commentary which is better for a non-reader. both are relevant and good discussions where students can bring in personal connections.

feels like a big logical fallacy. post hoc. he discusses the 2016 presidential prediction where trump won, but the predictor switched and chose hillary. had hilary won ur prob would’ve praised her for rethinking her choice.

parents fighting about pet not noticing jam, very metaphorical i see. divorce topic? family issues impact on children?

i am trying so hard to get into this book, but i am struggling.

I wanted to like this book but it was just bad quality wattpad. The guy is an asshole who only thinks of her as an object. The incorporation of the MeToo movement felt distasteful? It read like the argument “not all men are bad”; as if it were trying to disprove the movement? I get it but idk i just didn’t feel right. I love the concept. Hated the execution. It was also just force feeding her upcoming works.

this guy is so hypocritical. ogling her in a movie he recognizes as talking about the dangers of the male gaze. a movie where the main girl stabs the guy who objectifies her yet all he can focus on is her beauty??

dodges some complexities of listening. mansplaining, gendered listening norms, how listening standards vary across cultures.

thesis sounds like listening will solve all things currently wrong in our system, but i cannot fully agree with that idea. there are more complexities.

Interesting topics. The general subject of needing to listen to people can be applied to many current-day issues.

It does read like a research paper. The actual deductions made by Murphy are relatively simplistic. It doesn't read like a self-help book, but more of a long article.

In terms of summer reading, many might find this boring as it feels like a graduate thesis paper than a narrative.
