THIS IS EXTREMELY STRESSFUL

Mo Ran IS the drama and I live for it. Also big ol’ grump grump tsundere Chu Wanning is a vibe. So glad I’m finally reading this one.

I’m taking my time with this book because I want to savour every word. This is a book I’d normally devour, but I think Kuang has written something important wrapped up in fabulous storytelling — there’s so much going on here, that I’m deliberately slowing myself down to properly soak it all in, and it’s very worth it.

The level to which RF Kuang savagely ROASTS certain types of people in such an almost nonchalant way is just…mwah! Chef’s kiss. Phenomenal.

R.F. KUANG'S PROSE. I DIE. It's honestly so beautifully written, mellifluous and poetic, but also rich and deep. I love this.

I'm not sure if my relative knowledge of Korean creatures and names is a good or bad thing -- especially with the reveal of Shin's true nature. I mean...I thought it was obvious? His name is already a dead giveaway?

Regardless, I'm in love with this world and its story and our protagonist and also Shin and his bro squad (as I am calling them).
