I read this one for Shulem Shtisel recommended the author.
I was stupidly surprised to find Yentl among the stories.
The stories are not the cheer-me-up kind, but the style is pretty characteristic (event though there are many different translators, including Saul Bellow) and convey the epoch and place where they take place.
It wears off a little in the end, but one can see why Shulem was so impressed.

Ah, uma fabulazinha sobre Graça, bondade, persistência. Também uma antecipação simpática do encontro do autor com a morte.

Three cloack-and-daggerish little stories, which have in common not only The Thirteen (a secret society) but also, and specially, Balzac's views of Paris and Balzac's reflexions about love, passion, life and death.
