Okayyyyyy 💅🏼✨ This scene built up well. I like.

A young budding witch with Alzheimer’s 🫠 I’ll give that a five for creativity. No higher than 5 because I can foresee author just picked like, oo, a sad and a somewhat terminal condition but it won’t disfigure or make her ugly, hmm, I’ll use that.

That said, I’m already sighing since it’s a good idea but she won’t follow up on it

It’s kinda tolerable sort of horror? I hate to say that I find horror from human torture easier to digest than supernatural horror…I think it’s because you can see where the root of the problem is. But if it’s ghosts, it isn’t a creature of logic or even real, so it scares me.

Still, this entire book is very disturbing 😅

Unnecessarily violent. I won’t say it’s good writing. It was written for more of the shock value. Of course a stereotypically white guy about to go on a date gets it #totally a victim I’ll care about 🙄

How do I put this…It’s very action heavy. Also might be me but I’m already judging the tension building - it hasn’t started yet, fair, but the author has a style of writing that I would narrow my eyes at. Seems to be a fan of “leading” the reader by the nose. It is hardly anything to pick at but I find it exasperating for it to go, “BUT that’s not what they’re here for” #so mysterious 🙄

One word. Pretentious.

If I was the editor, I keep saying that it would have been a better book if it was focused on Darce and Enva instead of Iris and Roman 🫠 Dacre has more presence and he only appeared at the end!!

Iris’s annoying arc 🥲 If I give a low rating, it’s because of how the author handled this part.

Main female lead proves to be an idiot as usual *rolls eyes*

Another annoying thing [Spoiler]

The so-called brother she was so desperate to find suddenly makes an appearance but then because in the scene the male lead was “sacrificed”, Iris doesn’t even give her “beloved” brother a backward glance— there’s not an even, “Oh my God, you’re alive! I miss you!” For the brother. Nope. Straight to, “What did you do to my husband of one day!” Urgh.

I think what I dislike about scenes where two of the main characters are split in the middle of a war is the narration. The narration is annoying. It enforces this image with in your face sort of writing; “look, he has blood dripping down his chin, he’s crawling, he can’t walk, he’s coming for her,” blah. It romantices rather highlight the anguish/fear. Minus 1000 stars 😕
