so scary actually

incredibly painful read •́  ‿ ,•̀

need a man to have a religious dilemma over how bad he wants me.

starting to feel a bit repetitive and doesn't look like it's going anywhere:(

beautiful, insane writing

"God Himself had long ago, in mighty, choleric excess, sent hurtling the burning gallstone of His disillusion."

"Her squalid dresser was stippled with gold, and the sunlight, bouncing from the window glass, oozed in sticky oblong drops from the faded, papered walls."

Lucy is /so/ Protestant, dear God

“Why would you have a fantasy like that?” She looked disturbed.
“I don’t know. It’s not important.”
She continued to stare at him, almost stricken. “I think it’s because you feel estranged from people. You want something extreme to happen so you can show that you love them, and that you deserve love from them.”
He pulled her head against his shoulder and kissed it. He said, “Sometimes I just want to tear you apart.”

Man I really don't care about these chapter-long backstories of people and events only tangentially related to the main story.

when I grow up I want to be like aunt lavinia

What else did I ever do, in fact, but endlessly dig? The house, the papers from the archive, my ancestors’ paintings and other objects, the Chronica Cimamontium, Vallorgàna, the Mountain: anything, as long as it could be excavated; anything, as long as retracing it backwards might let me glimpse the faraway regions whence I and the world which I inhabit had likely come.

starting to be v grating .......

Writing's too atrocious to ignore so DNF'ing

Atrocious writing but of course I'm still reading it.

Her family lore is crazyyyyy

I hate Boris

alice is so annoying oh my god

All these new names from nowhere..... Who Are these people

wow this is just like conclave (2024)

good so far but what's irking me is that despite being in 15th century ottoman empire they follow a very modern gregorian calendar like ugh I know it's fictional and there's a lot of creative liberties but this is annoying me 😭

christ, what an opening

reading this finally!!

um this just got weird ....

This has some of the worst exposition I've read omg but I don't want to dnf the first thing I've picked up...
