I'm just pushing through to get it over with at this point.

The first couple of chapters of this book are actually quite good - some action, some magic, what could have been an intriguing and dangerous mystery to solve but then after the plot is set up any pretence of it's existence is completely abandoned and it turns into an orgy with long rambling but empty dialogues or internal monologues that readers of the Anita Blake books will be well acquainted with.

So lovely

I'm not very far into this book. In fact, my family are surprised I haven't finished it already considering how short it is. It's because of the amount of emotion in it and the heavy concepts discussed. They cause the sort of uncomfortable restlessness that comes with questioning where you are in your life and what you're doing with it. Questions I already struggle with. So I avoid it and read everything else.

Probably not going to finish this one

Quite boring. I keep thinking "Just get on with it!". The characters talk too much. Stop telling us what you're going to do and just do it! And jumping from one to the other without moving forward in the plot is just irritating.

So far I'm not very impressed. The characters are unoriginal and their priorities are seriously screwed up. If I'd been held prisoner in a mine for a year and thought I was going to be put to death I wouldn't give two damns how I looked and I'd be mad as hell or scared out of my mind at being inspected like cattle by a Crown Prince. If he's part of the family holding you prisoner who the hell cares if he's handsome??

I am only a few pages in and I am struggling. I know it is still very early and I need to give the book a chance but the first few pages usually set the tone for the story. So far it is like listening to your grandparents share gossip about their friends. It is not very interesting and you cannot really relate.
