The first couple of chapters of this book are actually quite good - some action, some magic, what could have been an intriguing and dangerous mystery to solve but then after the plot is set up any pretence of it's existence is completely abandoned and it turns into an orgy with long rambling but empty dialogues or internal monologues that readers of the Anita Blake books will be well acquainted with.
