I should elaborate instead of giving what sounds like a flip dismissal. It’s like a fever dream where nothing really that odd is happening, but the rhythm and music, the way it moves, is completely alien to the point of frightening. Simple images and ideas slam your head in startling bursts, threadbare conflicts you’ve read (or lived) shake you back into being a scared, raw kid.

Haven't read this since college and...holy shit. There is absolutely nothing in the world better than getting that 'punched in the guts' feeling from a book right when it starts.

Ugh...I'm really struggling...I feel like the whole thing got away from Gaddis about 100 pages ago...
