Why does this feel like such a slog?

This author’s writing style is so strange to be. It’s like a freak of consciousness

I’m having a bit of a hard time with this. I don’t know if it’s the author’s style or if I’m missing big pieces because I didn’t read the others in the series first, but most of the time, I’m scratching my head thinking “huh?”

I literally skipped like 10 pages and was EXACTLY where I left off in the plot. Nothing had progressed. And this was during a “stakeout/chase” scene! And I don’t get the chemistry of the MCs. They literally talk about how their sexual encounters are terrible. And they’re not written as anything great.

OMG I’m at 65% and it has been a real effort to get this far. I’ll finish on principle, but it’s not been a fun ride. It’s kind of disappointing too, because some of Nicky James’ books are my all time favorites. I don’t know what went wrong here. There is so much rambling. In fact, one character is even called out as a rambler who can’t “get to the point” but everyone is like that.

DNFd at 10% couldn’t vibe with the characters

I’m at 54% and this is basically the entire flow of the book:
Spend the day day at the gym, with lots of technical language and sexual innuendo thrown in. Then go home and fuck. Rinse and repeat.
Also, there should be a drinking game every time some one “flicks their eyes between mine” or every time Luca blabbers about some sexual encounter he and Ty had and Ty just “rolls my eyes with a sigh.”

I wish it was easier to find explicit descriptions of relationship dynamics. Was about 10% in when I figured out this couple had a D/s vibe, which I don’t read, so I DNFd. Sorry I’ll miss what everyone seems to love so much! But we all have our things I guess

I’m 10% and struggling. Everyone seems to live this series but it’s a slog for me. The 3rd person narration makes it hard to follow who’s thinking/saying what. And I just don’t connect to the characters at all. I can’t tell if Zane is supposed to be a doofus or a man of mystery.

I’m trying hard not to give up on this one b/c it came so highly rec’d but it’s not resonating with me at all.
