Surprised that this book is kinda boring and somewhat of a mish-mash.

Labor Strikes, Forest Conservation—- this book is expansive and well-researched.

Dense text but very enjoyable.

This author has an extensive vocabulary. He uses a variety of unusual adjectives that are succinct.

Stories of railroad building.

The level of detail provided is astonishing.

Stories of the miners, traders, and the founding of cities during the Gold Rush in the Rockies.

Riveting.

At least three times so far, a statement was presented without further explanation or context to ascertain its intended meaning.

The author’s tone doesn’t jive with this story. I also don’t want to frequently read the author’s guesses about what people were thinking, feeling, or doing.

I read Appendix II: Sex and the Expedition. Regarding the claims of possible sons of Lewis and Clark with Native American women, I’m not impressed that Crista Cowan, Ancesty’s Corporate Genealogist, was chosen as a source.
A far better choice would have been Roberta Estes, who is a renowned Native American DNA expert. Just sayin’.
