We switched to the audiobook while on our trip out of state this week… back to print now that we’re home. All of that time in the car made for plenty of progress — even spending only a small fraction of that time on this.

The book is better than I was expecting from the reviews, but definitely very different from the others in the series.

The pacing of this book is far slower than I’d anticipated. It’s good, for sure, but progress has been rather slow thus far.

There is a lot of depth to the multiple threads of storytelling in this book, and the way details are revealed is quite engaging.

This certainly wasn’t what I was expecting, but I’m interested to see where it’s going. I haven’t read much epistolary fiction, so it’s a fun change of pace!

This one definitely has a much different feel than the other books in the series — both the original trilogy and the newer prequel. Hopefully my daughter can continue to follow the story despite the more complicated narrative.

I’m quite late to read this one, but better late than never! It’s a fairly short read, and I’m enjoying it so far.

While Goodreads will say I still have a fair amount of this book left to read, it turns out much of it consists of acknowledgements and footnotes. The book technically ends on page 403 (the “extent” of the title, in library-speak); the last page of the book proper is actually on page 312, meaning I am actually roughly 92% done — and in fact am on the last chapter now.

While these later chapters lack the intrigue of the bygone era present in the beginning ones, I’m still very much enjoying this book.

This last chapter took a big turn: from histories of prominent US bookstores with heartwarming stories, to suddenly talking about fascist and communist bookstores of WWII and the Cold War. Very interesting, but certainly a different feel to it.

I’ll admit… we’re in a section of the book right now where it seems to be dragging along a bit. I’m ready for the next act of the story, and not really interested in the little events happening right now. That’s a disappointing element of an otherwise-great book.

One of my favorite parts of this book (other than its charming and cozy storytelling on the magical world of bookshops) is how each chapter is just long enough to feel like its own book. When the next chapter comes along, if feels like starting an entire new experience.

While I am enjoying this one, I still prefer the full-length stories so far. I think I’m ready to move on…

I’m excited to see the events of this book in the movie when it comes out… I really hope they do the book justice.

I’m really enjoying this read, but nonfiction always takes me longer to get through.

The endings to these short stories have been somewhat abrupt…
