I love whimsy...but dare I say we may be bordering on all whimsy and no substance here. Feels like too many close saves and I'm having such a hard time finishing this book 😮‍💨

Still so much of woe-is-me. If this wasn't an audiobook this would be a DNF

I know this book is YA, but the level of angst and woe-is-me is...a LOT. I also thought this was history fantasy, but it's modern day. I'm going to try to stick with it, but I don't know...

This author is trying way too hard to be descriptive, it's clunky and just too much.

"Fine eyes squinted in disbelief until a handsome grin transformed his steely features into amiability."

I feel like I'm reading a series of Mad Libs. Don't know if I'll be able to see this one through to the end. I'm going to try, but....

Might be too soon to tell, but I think I might love this one
