This book is very hard to describe or even say anything about because of how strange it is. But… I’m very interested in it.

The horror of having to figure out what to do with your life and the horror of being pushed to play truth or dare with a group of people you vaguely know are only small pieces building up to even scarier things here. It’s very successful at creating discomfort.

You know it’s a good book when you don’t want to sleep because you just want to know more.
And I love sleeping so much but I NEED ANSWERS

I’m nervous about this one guys.
It starts in a cowboy-themed place with a “welcome to abortion town” sign. The first issue also includes our girl getting special powers from having a miscarriage. This is gonna either be good or really really bad I think. Fingers crossed.

So this book is about how Hugh Henry Van Boren got killed after he cheated on Millicent Cordelia Calthrope-Newton-Rose and now main character Jess Choudhary and her bff Clementine-Tangerine Briggs will try to solve it, because Jess is in danger after having written the perfect murder which has now been committed.

I’m ready for the promising dramatics.

I have no idea what to expect, but (just like with the Raven boys) the writing and characterisation are so good. I don’t normally read WWII fiction but I picked this up bc trust Stiefvater. Lots of interesting things going on.

Sentences like “she held her coat crumpled in her arms like a dead infant.” Hmhhm

Sayaka Murata really looked at compulsory sexuality and said... thats dumb lets do compulsory asexuality instead. (My expectations are insanely high I love how weird this is)

“Het is niet oncomfortabel, maar juist veelbelovend. Alsof ik net de boeken in een slordige boekenkast in een boekhandel weer netjes op een rij heb gezet. Of alsof iemand anders het voor mij gedaan heeft en ze dan nog eens op alfabetische volgorde heeft gezet.”

Ze weet goed in het thema van boeken-liefde te blijven (met een situatie waar ik me helemaal in herken) en zet ook nog eens een passend metafoor neer.

This main character saying… no the rumours are wrong! Charles is not flirting with everyone! Or anyone! He just spend the entire time talking to me and asking about my family and asking my opinions on poetry!!

Oh dear oh dear I wish I didn’t relate to how oblivious Gavin is. I have to love him.

It’s like they’re going for the Fleabag hot priest with the guy character. He also has some good political insights. I like that idea but then annoyingly there’s lots of danger for the main character and he’s just beating people up all the time. Such aggression. (To protect her but still.) Ughhh what is this character?
Love Viv tho.

Help. Do I first read the last 50 pages so I can focus, or do I read them after handing in my essay, as a reward?
Hmmm

Whenever she goes to Uni it’s only to mention that she is not at all focusing because she is thinking about “subway girl”. Most of the time she skips to hang out with said girl on said subway. But she had a talk with the study advisor who told her she would be graduating soon so all is fine.

something about the lack of talking to anyone or making friends is just not my uni experience. But this isn’t abt me

Just reading some romance to get through the exam stress. (I am completely procrastinating but shhhh)

For a sec I thought the mc was named August and the love interest June, luckily no it’s Jane.

Fieke is starting Saga, Volume 2
The first thing we see of saga volume two is this intense cover in which a protagonist is fully covered in blood. The second thing, the first real image after the title page, is a young child in a meadow all yellow tones, with an extremely cute dog-like animal. It's in fact the same person, Marko! Looks like it is about to be devastating.

A curse, a kindness by Corinne Duyvis
This one has magical realism and romance. I loved the concept and thought the execution was interesting. (Though once again, not always logical.) (The framing of the backstory was odd.) I liked both main characters and them together. It does get quite cheesy at times, these girls are teenagers after all. I am not sure I like the ending but it was a nice story overall.

Mother Nature’s youngest Daughter
In this story a girl gets bullied and finally stands up for herself.
On the one hand, this was a kind of American high school, cliques type story. Like heathers/ mean girls/ Carrie a familiar (predictable) setting. Yet, it had a magical element.
The worldbuilding confused me. I also did not like the writing style. Overall it felt too young for me, or maybe too American.

Ballad of Weary Daughters by Kristine Wyllys
This might be my favourite short story of the collection so far! It follows someone with a complicated family dynamic. In a short amount of time, this story sets up a complicated character, extensive history, a strong setting, many character dynamics and a deep friendship. This story has a lot of emotions that are brought out by a beautiful writing style. Really great!

A play in many parts, Fox Benwell
This short story is very experimental. It is written in the structure of a script. This form reflects the content in a very meta way as the story partially chronicles the Faustus play and partially follows the group of teenagers writing their version of the play. It was interesting but also confusing. I think you have to like (/know) the play to fully appreciate how it was used.

Nora James, you know nothing about love by Dhonielle Clayton
Nora anonymously gives love advice but she has never dated herself. Since her parents got divorced she is not interested. But a boy has a crush on her and her friend needs a double date. I liked how her disability was treated. I also liked the message of taking your time. The ending was good.
The story reminded me of Zhao's 'dear wendy' (but it's not aro).
