wee woo wee woo we are now entering new book territory never in my life have I read this

book club book! 15 pages in and it's alraedy far better than our last one. There are... things to think about! And analyze! oh my god!!!

here to report that this book is extremely boring.

it's for book club so we shoulder on but like,,, it's Gravity the movie if the tension and fun character dynamics were taken out 3 as someone with a philosophy degree I feel equipped to say that the philosophy Orbital investigates is extremely basic stuff ("time is a human construct" -- ehhh kind of? and "life is so meaningless against the vastness of space" etc)

no one is prepared for the sheer amount of warriors i'm going to get through on my morning commute

Literally been trying to get my hands on this book for like five years now, broke after seeing it on sale at a local bookstore, and finally bought it. I wish I had any other cover than the one I do (I have the modern green heraldic one) but ALAS JUDGING COVERS STOY ETC.

I got about 50% of the way through this novel in 2024 before school devoured me whole, but my God, Mr. Gay, are we in need of delight.

I was excited to read this but then I realized that the author runs an AI startup for audiobooks so. I'll see you in a week when my review is inevitably bleakly negative.

I promised myself I'd stop starting books when I'm "reading" like four others but it's too late I'm 10 pages in which means I'm committed for the next 300

this book is playing to my love of reading about writers and the writing world and oh my god anyone who likes books should read it. I'm quaking. I need to eat this book.

follow-up: there's something really off about claiming "these lives now have a basis of equality" and then going on to describe vastly different allowable actions (including straight up murder) that would seem to imply that these lives are not, in fact, equal.

Surprise! Peter Singer is equating the worthiness of disabled people's lives to those of animals!

(this is not surprising; if I had a nickel for every time Singer did this, I'd have at least four nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's surprising that it happened that many times)

I'm sorry, but 90% of this novel's conflict being "are dragons actually NOT mindless, vicious animals??" drives me up the wall because like all humans are aware that dragons have PALACES. HOW DO YOU THINK THAT HAPPENS, HUMANS??? The reverse of this conflict (dragons realizing humans are just like them) makes sense to a certain degree at least because humans and their settlements are hard to find. gah this book is :(

no one can stop me from reading all of wings of fire (all three series) (and the spinoffs) (I have to do it before there's nine series and seventeen standalones like warriors) (yes this is the actual number of warrior cats series and standalones)

seriously wondering whether the person who wrote the dust jacket blurb read the book because a) wow does it feel inaccurate and b) wow does it undersell this bizarre and poignant little book

I am terrified by the fact that this stopped being funny and became tiresome like 5% ago. Hooray for the remaining 70%.

Oh my god I started this book last night and Brennan NAILED the style on this. This reads like one of those "hey guys it's totally true" sea narratives from the 1800s except it's fun to read and (hopefully?) won't have an incredibly racist turn midway through. Also dragons.

BRUH????? POE PLS EXPLAIN HOW YOU FORGOT ABOUT ONE OF THE FIVE IMPORTANT CHARACTERS IN THIS DAMN BOOK.

This would be a great ironic read just for its sheer unbelievability (with constant assurances that it's totally true, bro) but I CANNOT with these excessive digressions into the fauna of some random region (the location of which has already been preponderated for several paragraphs, including exact geographic coordinates). I get it Poe, you think penguins could be mistaken for human beings, I GET IT!!!

YALL THERE'S SO MUCH QUEER REP IN THIS BOOK IT'S INCREDIBLE

let's be honest this book could be terrible and it'd still be one of my favorites for that GLORIOUS COVER!!! I cannot get over how pretty this series looks <33
