Some amusing lines:

Gandalf is fictional. King Arthur is a lie.

I know that sounds willfully confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it.

About "early Medieval" vs "dark ages" It feels like there's altogether too many shiny trumpety things and maidens with pointy hats and youths with pointy shoes to be dark. Daft maybe, but not dark.

One o the 10 best books I've read this year.

If you read the blurb, it sort of spoils it. So just read it. It's devastating and hopeful, all at once. Don't fret over it being a middle grade book if you're an adult. Just read it.

Zora is starting Spying on Democracy: Government Surveillance, Corporate Power, and Public Resistance
I've read two Snowden books and Bruce Schneier's Data and Goliath. I'm reading this now for a discussion group which is going to talking about "how oppressive is our government, really?" Someone wants to talk as well about why authoritarianism appeals to certain people, and for that, I listened to a couple interviews and am reading the March 23 Nature article by Danny Osborne, et al.

Riveted so far, and David Collaci is knocking it out of the park as a narrator on the audio book.

beautifully written (or translated, or both). One of those thrillers with unlikable characters, which I usually hate, but at least these are interesting ones, and they mostly have enough redeeming actions to not hate spending another moment with them.

I've taken a couple of archeology courses and I'm mad for Time Team (UK). But I'll never have the money to see these places outside of North America in person (I grew up spitting distance from Monk's Mound, so I'm quite familiar with that, and I've seen a lot of desert SW ruins too.)

These beautiful photos and brief summaries are enough to keep me armchair-traveler happy.

Linguistics textbook on PIE (proto Indo-European) and daughter languages and their development. Not going to get through this one fast! But wanted to challenge my mind.

My "phone book" and as a PDF, so I'm unlikely to get through this quickly. The version I have had 6 different introductions and prefaces.
