Ahhhhh the classic stupid plot device of using emotion instead of logic and letting the dangerous murderer live which backfires of course. Seriously, why are we trying to make the person responsible for all the pain and problems "comfortable"? Why is that a priority over protecting the seeds and other people?

Seems to me that 90% of problems in this book could've been solved with condoms and communication

All the problems of this book could be solved by the characters taking 2 minutes to compare instant gratification to long term goals and consequences. Example: their job is to save the seeds to protect the future of multiple entire species. And yet they sacrifice this future to save 2 individuals of a species and Dom literally teaches his kids to give into emotions not logic when tragedy strikes

I can't help but feel there's another message here. Rowan says that she doesn't want kids and society says that she must be broken because she doesn't want kids and calls out society as stupid for expecting her to eventually want kids.....then Rowan essentially adopts a kid so it feels like the moral is society is right and Rowan is wrong and I hate it

Ah yes, only the 9 year old knows enough about the seeds to know which ones to save. I'm so glad the family in charge of this supposed super serious job has delegated appropriately (sarcasm)

Yet again, the judgemental MC talking like an idiot "all men are the same. All demons are the same but I'm a special snowflake". Just imagine if she replaced "men" or "demons" with "Black people" every time she insulted a whole group and she'd sound like a horrible person. Also: "we're in here studying because we're losers with no plans". Stfu you're a student! I didn't know students are losers for studying!

Just when I'm starting to be okay with the FMC, she says the classic 15 year old immature saying "No one tells me what I'm capable of. I know what I can and can't do" in response to a much older and more experienced warrior saying "hey, don't do this thing, you'll die". Because FMC is always right

Can't help but feel if the MC was a guy instead of a woman, she'd be called out as super sexist. "Slutty" is not a nice way to describe anyone especially women because it perpetuates thd male oriented idea that if a woman dresses in revealing clothes or likes sex that she is to be condemned. Also "I'm not wearing underwear, I'm girlfriend material, the slutty halloween gods have been appeased". What?!

MC: "we all know that words from boys under the age of 25 are worth about as much as an expired nail salon coupon, most likely useless"
I'm not sure if I'm more annoyed by the judgemental sexism or the stupidity. If I said that but replaced "boys" with "girls" I'd definitely be called sexist. Also by that statement any guy over the age of 25 doesn't have useless words. Why is the mc so judgemental?

The characters continue to be flat, defined by their stereotypical roles. The "boy crazy" girl has to dress in revealing clothes. The jock has to be a dumb jock and proud of it. The nerd has to be into comic books. I've realized that the characters are put into boxes just like the MC puts everyone into boxes and judges them before she actually knows them. Also, what are these metaphors? Why so many metaphors?

I'm still trying to determine if this is young adult high school or adult college fantasy. A lot of the dialogue is highschool as is the stereotypical highschool types (physically weak/smart nerd, pretty boy jock, "boy crazy" girl, and judgmental know it). But then the MC will just whip out a "I've been hunting werewolves for years I have so much more experience than y'all" and I go "ah right, they're in college".

"I can't believe i shared something personal with the closest thing to an enemy" thinks the demon hunter about her instructor despite literally having demon enemies that she's fought and killed. No the closest thing you have to an enemy are literal enemies you idiot. Also, you didn't seem to mind being close enough to admire his "cozy boy sweat" whatever that is.

Dnf at 25%. The author has killed off another pet cat and I'm disgusted by the violence Keri Lake seems to enjoy imagining for cats. I don't know why she hates cats or why she likes killing them off in her stories but neither death was necessary for the story nor character development beyond Mae being exposed as a cruel disgusting woman who cares more about how the cats death will affect her than its suffering.

Slow death of pet cat from a spider bite really put me off of this story that I already can't focus or care about the characters. Also pet peeve of mine but spiders are venomous, not poisonous. Also, the really weird description of Zev unable to masturbate was off putting as well. If I met a guy who talks like Zev, I wouldn't date him.
