Wow, this is not the breezy, funny memoir I expected. Alan had a sad start to life.

I knew this book was going to detail Fry's cocaine use, but it feels rather like it was written during a binge! Which is, of course, what hypomania feels like...

I swear that's the third time the word 'specificity' has been used in this book...

Ok. I've only read the five page prologue so far, and the over-written similes have been frequent and painful. The first sentence of the book has a cringe inducing simile, as does the second. I'm giving the book another chance, prologues can be awkward. But now I'm wary...

I've just finished the 39 page introductory letter by the author. I do hope his fiction is a little less long-winded!

Giving up on this one, just not finding it interesting.

I'm about two-thirds of the way through and am really only just getting into this. There have been many days where I've not read at all. Is this because of Emma, or just that my brain can't dig itself out of The Dark Tower? Emma herself is not so likeable a heroine as some of Jane Austin's others.

I am loving this book so much that I feel the need to talk about it before I finish it. Can't wait to finish the stuff I have to do today and get back into it!

I can't go any further. I'd rather eat my own liver than keep reading this book. It's a one joke comedy and that joke just isn't funny. The same scenes again and again. If it wasn't a library book I'd put it in my fireplace so it could at least keep me warm for a while.
