Thought I finished this already. So starting from the beginning again.

Re-read. Think I read the series when it came out.

Ok. This is just... A. He's genre hopping. Again.
B. I am pretty sure you need more than a passing familiarity with what's his name... The Cthulu guy... (Lovecraft).. Since I've only read other "Lovecraftian inspired" works (according to others who have presumably read Lovecraft), I am not there.
C. The pacing. Is. So. Freaking. Slow.
D. Howard likes to showing off his expansive vocab for no reason.

I can tell when I get close to the end of his books, I start getting confused where all these characters are coming from - they just start popping up like whack-a-moles and the scene gets too chaotic to figure out what's going on. They say half the fun is getting there, but if I continue to read this series I'm going think my brain is going there "funny". This will get alarming.

Notes for authors on things not to do:
Don't have main characters discuss their conception with their parent/s.

Don't mention dads right before sex.

Have cringey sex scenes that sound like a Harlequin romance written by a doctor.

And FFS

Don't end sex scene with - mentioning character's mom or have character thinking about her mom..

And last but not least - DO NOT do all these things in one book!

I'm so bored. It's like the same scenarios and same characters from previous books. This is a 'going through the motions' book. The plot is dragging the characters along rather than the characters doing the driving. Always a bad move.

"Fetching up on the door frame". WUT?


TWICE now the author has written (commenting about crowded areas of towns) "people of all genders, ages and occupations". 😒

So men and women. 🙄

This isn't hard. Men + women = PEOPLE FFS.

Then there's:

Book 1 was good, but they've aged two years, both are now adults and they're still acting like they're in an episode of some 80s pre-teen drama.

Why does he keep on using the word "creamy"? Like creamy waves of energy. WTH does this even mean?!

Too slow paced.

Audiobook version. They really should have had a guy do the men's voices. The narrator is good (but only) when she's doing voices that sound like hers but the men's voices are terrible, like a parody of "doing voices" in a children's bedtime story. The female voices are so similar they aren't distinguishable.

I'm trying to not make this a DNF. I really am. I don't know if I'll make it to the end. She's unlikable, plot is so slow, trite idioms.. There's a lot of rehashing of boring conversations that seem more like plot filler & just ridiculous responses to events.
Hiding from baddies, but keep being found? Don't check for bugs, or discard your phones! Just ponder how it could possibly happen over and over again!

I don't know why they repeatedly keep saying each other's names before giving instructions during sex. Are they trying to remind themselves what their names are, like: I love you Kieran, do me harder. 🙄 . I love you Alexis turn around... Maybe they need name tags with edible glue. And hand signals like those traffic cops use.

So, it reminds me of American nighttime TV. Just blah with a lot of cringe and stupid/unrealistic things happening and annoying characters. If you like network Prime Time TV, you'll probably like this. If, like me, you think it's overrated, unrealistic, and cringe worthy you'll probably hate it. I'm not sure why I haven't DNF'ed this... I think it's just laziness, I'm too lazy to start another book right now.
