What to do when the story is really good, but the writing is not great ??

I've dnf'd this author in the past because she writes a lot of soap boxing monologues ... It's not even that I disagree or not with what she's saying, I just feel like I'm being lectured and it's obnoxious. The story is pretty good though, thus far, so I think I'll continue, just needed to complain after the 5th or 6th soap box.

Ughh mind control ... Sigh ... This author just might not be for me.

This is already so much better than the last book. I'm not holding my breath, that the characters won't revert, but I'm hopeful this progression will hold.

This is giving a mediocre version of Ilona Andrews white hot series.

I'm not sure I am going to make it with this TSTL MFC! The MMC is not much better.

I may not be in the right headspace for this book because the constant pause for sexy times when the world is "supposedly falling apart" is annoying the F out of me!
"I can do it, I can do it ... But ... I'm only human" - it says something that this song is on repeat in my head.

There has to be a way to write an emotionally vulnerable character without them coming across as weak and annoying.
I get that people freeze and make illogical choices and that everyone has some sort of moral compass in real life, but man that shit is annoying in fiction. (jmo)

I feel like I'm reading a story from two different authors. One moment, our heroine is smart, logical, and powerful, the next she's either TSTL or leaving a bad guy alive for no reason. Doesn't make sense.

🤦‍♂️ ughhh! Another book with them/their pronouns. No offense meant against gender pronouns, but it is SO confusing in a book to refer to a person in a plural format!

Hmmm .... Let's play this book out for people.

I'm not going to justify why I am rereading a series that drove me up the wall the first time I read it, only that I was tempted by the audiobooks. (which lessened my irritation with the miscomm. theme considerably.)

However... I am going to document every time the author has the characters put off discussing something of vital importance because they "just can't handle it right now" and would rather have SEX!!!

I am so confused!! At like 30% I became seriously depressed when I realized this book wasn't an R.H. mostly because it is set up just like an r.h. ... Now at 51% the author is once again making this out to be an r.h. ... In the blurb it doesn't say anything about r.h. and I am going to be so pissed if this is like a 6 way love hexagon!!

Every time the MFC talks she stutters (I'm pretty sure this is the choice of the narrator and it was the wrong one!)
This character paired with this narrator is just too much!

How have I found myself reading another book with a stupid / weak MFC?

Doormat: a character that gets bullied, but never fights back and just carries on with an "inner strength".

I can already tell I'm going to love this grumpy brash MFC. 🤣

I just don't want this book to end!!

This is going south fast! I abhor female characters that pine for men that treat them poorly. The ones that give all the power to the man to decide if they want them and sit there painfully waiting for scraps of affection. I thought i could handle this because it was only the rejected fated mate, but no, now the author has at least two other guys basically rejecting her (someone who has major trust issues already)

Ok authors or potential authors ... MEN DO NOT GIGGLE!!! They may chuckle, they may even snicker, but they DO NOT giggle!

(* I'm at 43% and this is the first giggle, so I won't judge this book too harshly ... Unless it continues*)

Let's see if this can be saved ... We've entered the "self sacrificing", "miscommunication" portion of the story.

Probably not the best sign I forgot I was in the middle of reading this 😬 ... It's actually pretty good. Reminds me a TON of Knot All Is Lost by Elizabeth Knight.

This book is hilarious. Sadies internal dialogue/ social awkwardness is just perfect!
