This woman can turn a phrase and weave her story with skill! She creates colors and characters and sets her trap and then springs it! Dark and colorful at the same time. I love ❤️ storytelling ;especially islands with causeways in Cornwall. An English writer that speaks American or maybe just a universal spellbinder?

A spooky and amazing book. An ornithological tale with a sea voyage; end of the world ecological themes, terns, turtles, love, tragedy and sailors or I should say fishermen.

A fast moving romantic supernatural story.

First two chapters were very good! I like a chapter that ends in a flourish! She can turn a phrase. Finally we get some semi modern witches! Why do I feel we really didn’t get much further than suffrage? Feeling the feminine witchy rage….in a good way!

Such a good book; I want to read a chapter at a time and think about it

A compelling start. Japanese fantasy magical tale. Choices that are magical glowing birds. Supernatural pawn shop. Really a foreign land; never read anything like it. Hope it keeps up the spell which so far captures my attention despite my initial resistance to the dreamy style of this world. Scary monsters and a chaotic beginning. Love interest?

Must read this book every year or so. Her best novel to me
