I love this book so much. So rewarding on a series re-read. Cozy but also super messed up at the same time

Wow... I'm realizing how great this is to re-read once you've finished Realm of the Elderlings...

Just want to say that this book is great and I can't believe I deprived myself of Westerns for so long. Difficult to kick off my introduction to Westerns with this one as I have a hard time thinking many of the others will sufficiently compare.

Going to be giving this another re-read because I realized I needed a more solid background in Bayesian inference before I start *doing* Bayesian analysis

Still very confused about what’s going on (although I think this is intentional). Just finished reading the Solon Corbeau interlude... and wow, felt like I read a whole book within a book. Hope that plot line leads to something in the future

About 3/4 done with this book. I will say, the last quarter makes a pretty big shift that I was not anticipating... wondering where the story goes from here. Again, I still have no true problems with this book and find it pretty enjoyable. A solid 4 stars as of now with the possibility of 5 if the ending is great. Been looking at bad reviews, it seems people are rating the book low bc they don’t like Snow.

Really enjoying this book so far. Exceeding my expectations. Pacing is a bit slow but Snow is a really well-developed character with believable, deep motivations that, despite the narcissism and the obsessive desire for control, is actually pretty relatable. Or, at least, you can sympathize with him.

So far, just recently passed the 1/4 threshold of this book and am noticing some serious theoretical flaws in Kuru’s argument. As someone who has studied extensively the topic of Islamic “exceptionalism” in reference to its authoritarian over representation, I’m also finding Kuru’s dismissals of other theories far too... empty.

This is a legitimately informative, well-written, fair read of Latin American history so far. I’ve been searching far and wide for a book like this! Very impressed so far

About 1/4 through the book. More ideologically diverse than I thought but the editing isn’t executed very well and some of the contributors have pretty poor writing. Not impressed with the “rigor” of the content itself yet
