i've gotten past what i assume was the worst, but when you're brought right back to the beginning in the shoes of miranda...you feel as though there is hope again even though you clearly know where this is going and what will once again scar you for life.

i can't begin to explain how vile this is – truly more disgusting than dark places...but fowles achieves this masterfully. he has forced us to garner sympathy for both characters, has brought us to the culmination of events and as we fall further, we see the spite...we begin to hate character we hoped would better himself.it's terrifying how fowles manipulates his characters, but more importantly, the readers.
