My initial reaction is that I can feel the personal views of the author coming through but then I think, maybe it's the young protagonist voice? Slightly naive and a bit misogynistic, it very well could be the voice of the young college student who is a byproduct of a rough upbringing who hates their neglectful and toxic mother (although, I'm not sure they know they hate her, yet?). Hmmm.

This has already hit the bullseye for me with the understanding and description of an alcoholic mother. The whiny call from jail, the idea that everything is normal until decades later when you realize how messed up growing up like that is.

It took a bit for me to get into this, but it just started getting good for me with the ghosts and stories coming in solidly. I guess it really wants to lull you into small town quirky life first.

Not a great start for me. Josephine seems colossally stalkerish and deranged. Wells seems like someone who needs a lot of therapy.

Yikes, this is starting off bumpy for me because I sort of hate the one-look-- jump-into-bed thing. Most things are unbelievable in these things but a LOOK and you're going home with a stranger in a strange land. How...is that...safe, to say the most? WTH.

Chaucer's is by far my favorite character and we see far too little of him. Maybe that will change.

Embarking on the 52/53 Smith school year and you can already see how Red Comet is such an apt and fitting title. She is insanely talented, focused, and alive. Its no wonder she felt different, I've rarely met people in life who have this much vitality to them - moods, drive, unending curiosity.

The conjecture that mimics a third person pov novelization is something else...It's not hard to separate the fact from the assumption but I wish this was turned over to someone who could write a true fictionalization because I'd read that story.

Arobyn loves her too!? *eyeroll* Who doesn't? She should start introducing male characters by who doesn't love her. "Austvyn Rampardian, who, surprisingly, doesn't fall madly in love with Celaena..."

It's the audio narration on this one for me. I'm super into the audio because it's got the regional "Justified" vibes which really works for me.

Okay, but how does part two relate to Part 1? and I am less gripped.

Wow. I rarely get into 770 page books because I find great satisfaction in seeing the percentage tick up at a specific pace but this is lush and I’m gripped…

This is moving slowly for me. Hopefully it finds it's direction for me soon.
