Odd mix of Red Rising and Gundam Wing so far. I’m intrigued by the mysterious past of this world more than the characters so far, but we’ll see!

I really enjoyed Liking What You See! Such a thought-provoking piece.

Hell Is the Absence of God was quite a trip. I love reading stories about active divinities, especially in the modern world, and the way Chiang played around with various versions of Pascal’s Wager was especially compelling. The ending, though, left a lot to be desired.

Seventy-two letters (what a coincidence!) was quite the surprise. It was a little dense and much longer than the others, but I appreciated the classic way in which it was written. A compelling little story all around! The best part was the way this alternate history was much different than the history we know. So many alt hist don’t do this leg work.

The Story of Your Life is a masterpiece. I’m biased by my love of Arrival, but reading the source, seeing the bones, and analyzing the differences was an amazing experience. I found myself contentedly lost in Louise’s unique perspective, often seeing her without the context of her big screen depiction.

Finally in the titular story. Loving it so far, even with the differences to Arrival

I’m going to have to do some reading on Divided by 0. As it stands I’m just as frustrated as when I read the Three Body Problem. Why would a discovery that upsets the fundamentals of a branch of science lead to suicide in its discoverers?

Next was a different take on Flowers for Algernon. Had an interesting climax but was overall tough to read (which may have been the point!)

Chapter 40

Didn’t expect this to have so much in common with Kiki’s Delivery Service but it works so well.

It’s like I’m back with Tress! Well, back with Hoid, but you know what I mean <3

Tempted to skip Haven’s chapters and just read Mari’s…haven’t been this bored by the modern half of a historical story since Assassin’s Creed!

This one started to lose the plot a bit, but we’re back on track now!

For a book with such a hopeless, cynical premise, it’s a pleasant surprise that the story is anything but.

I have always wanted to read an Avatar story about the world shortly after the Avatar’s death. Where those closest to the Bridge must do their best to honor their friend’s legacy and try to hold the world together without grand cosmic powers.

I think this book is that book, though Arthurian, and I’m in love.
