The children are currently trying flush toilets for the first time. Hilarious and so on point. I read this with my grandma's voice in my head and wish I could ask my grandparents so much about their experience of moving west. Anybody who has picked up and moved on will resonate with the story. Anybody who has been forced to move on without knowing where they will land even more. As relevant now as ever.

I now have an inkling of where it could be going without being familiar with the life and history of the narrator's true existence. I remains fascinated and compelled to continue reading all the while fearing a fihurative imminent train wreck. Life as a gay man under McCarthy with ties to communism could prove highly dangerous...

Again and again I read passages aloud to my husband and laugh at the wit and imagery. And still i look at the page count and wonder where we are going next - not that I'm not enjoying the ride, I just wonder how and where it will end.

So scary! The thoughts here are not completely New, but the plausibility is unprecedented. Forget calling this a redo of 1984.... It feels like the prequel at the Moment...

I'm loving the different perspectives.

I so love Aomame as a character. She's kick add and so outspoken and polite at the same time. I'm also enjoying watching murakami weave his two narrators together into one story.

Winston is so very aware of his active and rational subversion whereas his counterpart from We subverts inadvertently and as an emotional reaction to his seductress.

Referenced Orwell while I was reading it today. I'm so Happy to have gotten a clue as to what connects the two narrators.I'm so curious about their inevitable encounter.
