The female narrator has just started, and she has pronounced hydrangeas like hi-drain-ya twice. This kind of stuff drives me nuts.

The opening was fabulous. "But oh, my love, you lied," sent chills. I love love love Steve West.

This is so interesting!

This book is six years old, but I had to wait weeks for my Libby hold. After the first couple chapters, I see why. Fascinating!

Best vampire book ever

Interesting opening, but I kid you not, one of these narrators is saying "Liberry" instead of "Library." Not just one--four or five times.

I just heard a reference to GK Chesterson's quip, "The poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese." So many allusions to some of my favorites. I wonder if High King Dresden is an allusion to Harry Dresden?

Loving this more with every minute. Steve West is SO GOOD at voices, and this book is giving him the chance to show off more than any other book of his I've heard. Puts me in mind of James Marsters and Dresden Files.

A matronly knitter who is also the head of the assassins guild just appeared, AND she's knitting with yellow yarn! <3

I have noticed several allusions to other works, but the best so far is to Vogon poetry. Probably giving this book 5 stars for that.

I cant get over how much better part 2 is.

Started Part 2, and it's like a different author wrote this. It's so much better than Part 1. Best line so far, "Help me get dressed. I have 47 tasks ahead of me, and none of them should be attempted without pants."

Also I have no idea what % I'm at because the greediest audiobook company on the planet can't make an audiobook player as functional as the one I use for free with the library.

Boring story written as an excuse to drag out a soapbox.

Original thoughts to words ratio is extremely low. I FINALLY just read something interesting in Chapter 6. I seriously wish I'd just skipped straight there because nothing has been said that I'm sure won't be said again ten times.

Also, this book is in competition with Book Friends for most annoying sidekick.

Hating it, but I'm not throwing in the towel yet. Im fed up with urban snobs being portrayed as adorable and funny instead of ignorant and bigoted. There's a reason all those relationships ended. You actually are a bitch, Nora. Also, the sister calling her "Sissy" is on my last nerve.

This book is exactly what I didn’t know I needed. It’s a joy.

I don’t like this book. I feel like there’s a good story in here, but it’s not well told. This is a case where the movie could be much better than the book. The narrator for Parisa is sometimes okay but often grating. I am just not enjoying this, and there are too many books out there. I’m calling it.

I’m finishing this because I love to hear Steve West talk. The prose is calm, so it’s nice to listen. I don’t care for the writing. It’s disjointed. The story itself is interesting, though.

Pure delight on every level. Great story. Great writing. Great narration. It’s been awhile since I got completely lost in a book, and I’ve missed that.

I need to start another book like I need a hole in the head, but today I start work after my long holiday vacation. I need a little sumpin. Shane East is just the thing, and this is on Libby!

This is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. The author has exceptional turn of phrase which is lacking more often than not in modern books.

Also, Jason Clarke sings well, and he can do it in his lady voice too! Whole.Nother.Level.

On top of JC, Andi Arndt is so perfect I almost take her for granted because she is always perfect.

Now all that is more than enough, BUT WAIT, THERE’S more. Shane East has a small part and makes brief appearances.

This book is perfect.

Started this way too late last night and can’t get back to it till tonight. I’m loving it.

1/3 through and all that’s happened is sex and Cecilia’s navel gazing. Not the way you treat readers after leaving a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of book 1. I’m pretty pissed at this author.

Joe Arden doing a French accent is the same not reason I’m still listening.

I hope there’s a story in this book somewhere.
