I had to double check if this was actually written by a woman. So far this reads like an incel fever dream...

This started so well. But that plot twist is the cheapest of the cheap. Why do authors keep doing this? Now I understand the low rating. Now I am wondering if I should just DNF and cut my losses….

Let’s see what the hype is about. I’ve heard a lot of good things but also some very compelling critique.

She has full custody of 2 kids with an ex-husband who clearly has money and she cannot make ends meet with the child support? And she has had kids for multiple years and still doesn't have any routines in place?

Fun read, but you need to suspend all belief. The whole thing is beyond ridiculous. 🙈

When I broke my arm or needed a MRI to check on a lump or anytime doctors talk about a procedure, money never ever, not once even crossed my mind. You don't go into debt because you have medical needs. Even without health insurance, procedures are "cheap" compared to the US.
Also: Taking sick leave does not get you fired. So much for "The land of the free." Free to suffer and die.

This is ridiculous. You gonna tell me a 35 year old who has been through what the MC has been through will be this immature? This takes me right out of the story. 😕

This is a very American book. While productivity/working is a value throughout the world, it's not linked to morality in a lot of countries. Nor do we loose our jobs/income if we happen to get sick. 🤔

Why are these books so freaking loooong... they are good... but wouldn't they also be good a bit shorter?

I really don't like the female MC... so I am not nearly as appalled at what is happening to her as I should be... she is a real piece of work... using people left, right and centre...

Okay, I thought the MC was 6, maybe 8. Apparently she is 13... o.o She is written VERY young.

The author really likes unreliable narrators... which I really don't like... but in this case, it might be OK...

Still waiting for the characters to have some kind of personality that is more than just "My family was killed." and "I love this other person." *yaaaaawn*
Also, no plot. I was expecting historical fiction... with... you know... historical plot... but the historical part is only setting the scene for overly wordy romance.
