i won't lie: it's getting difficult to read what with all the needless whinging and general patheticness. one has to make allowances for general sillyness in historical romance but sometimes i just feel like screaming "GET OVER IT AND SHAG!" at my kindle before i realise how mental i would seem to my housemates. however, i really do feel for lily as a character, and her need to be loved is strikingly relatable.

i am rapidly careenly toward the end of this book and thus the ENTIRE SERIES and i am feeling ridiculously emotional about it.

the beginning of the end...

(I'll be soppy now while I'm still semi rational and not emotionally wrecked) this series means untold amounts to me - to be sat in my bedroom in my own little home with my lovely friends in the city I had dreamed of escaping to when I first read TID in lockdown, lonely and grieving, finally reading this book now feels like a full circle moment.

it’s the way that both of them spend the entire first quarter of the book fantasising about the kinky and downright depraved things they’d do to each other (NOT TO MENTION!!! that brothel scene! Oh my?!) and then when they finally get down to it it’s the most boring sex ever. i don’t mean to be that person… but there had better be more to come!!!

started off so promising... the tension was 😫😏 and the brothel scene?!?!?!!! wow wowow. now I'm just kind of... bored.

I love the whole - selling your soul to a dark mysterious figure who may or may not be an analogy for the devil/making a suspicious deal with the mysterious - but shockingly handsome! - magician… oh no! now you’re married! - thing. y’know, enemies to lovers, betrayal, angst… books like Once Upon a Broken Heart, Addie LaRue, Kingdom of The Wicked. anything like that! thanks 😉

i can almost certainly see this becoming my fav book of 2022… it just has everything i could ever ask for in a fantasy novel

it’s been too long since i’ve read a 4⭐️+ historical romance book and i can see myself careening towards a reading slump… why do i end up reading so many shit books?!?! i’ve been trying to read the ravenels series by lisa kleypas but it’s just not hitting like her other series. if anyone has any recommendations for historical romance i’d really appreciate it!!
