I’m one chapter into this audiobook and it’s touching many tender spots and anxieties. I was not ready to cry over lunch learning about Vara’s sister, but should have expected the anxiety considering the first chapter title “your whole life will be searchable”.

I’m grateful she lays out surveillance capitalism, but also touches on personal attachment to this data as an intimate archive (I too hoard data)

This has picked up in the second half for me

I have been struggling through this book for months. I’ve really tried not to give up on it so this update is my public accountability attempt. What has kept me engaged are the stories of people connected to the oil sands industry. It’s also been interesting to really see how vital government support has been to the industry, and how it’s been impacted by geopolitics.

If anyone might be interested in reading this together and perhaps convening a little book club to dissect chapters every once in a while, let me know :)

I’m only reading this because I’m at my uncle’s and finished my book. It’s enjoyable so far—my first book by Gladwell. So far it has raised and validated a lot that I’ve observed in my life. Which sort of makes me anxious? Lol. But it’s always nice to think against conventional wisdom.

This is a very strange book
