Okay, I'm only 16% into the book but wtf is with the male lead???? He keeps making misogynistic comments as self-deprecating jokes (I think???) but 1. EW, and 2. Who does that? He's also genuinely an a-h*le and I do not understand what Hazlewood was thinking when she designed his character. His behaviour is so off-putting that I might actually DNF this.

Honestly, I think the murderer is very obvious and I will be shocked if I've gotten it wrong. This would normally sour my experience (I don't like the mystery to be excessively easy to guess) but the people Vera has met have been shockingly fleshed out so far. Their very human stories have been wonderfully interwoven and has pulled me in deep. I am finding myself more invested in them than the actual mystery.

We're in it now, folks!!! The last third of this book is dramatic, tense and has me screaming at every twist and turn.

I had no idea what to expect going into this book as I've never read this author before and I randomly picked this off of the Goodreads Awards 2024 list, but I do so love a good mystery. Pacing is good and the world building is phenomenal and there are enough hooks to keep me interested and clues to keep me trying to puzzle everything out.

I am shockingly into this book way more than I was expecting since it's a romance novel. However the found family trope is strong here and seeing as that is my kryptonite, perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised.

This is the quick, quirky chaos I fell in love with in the second book and found lacking in the first. I can already tell I'll be giving this 4 stars. Also the female lead is giving neurodivergent and I'm so here for it.

So far not as good as the second book in the series, however the familiar witty banter and Victorian satire is present and still enjoyable.

OH MY GOD THE AUTHOR JUST MENTIONED THE "AND THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED" TROPE, WHAT IS HAPPENING????

Oh my God this book is so horny hahahahahaha

I'm reeeeeaaally struggling to get into this book and I'm not sure why. I really like the characters and the world building but it's feeling a bit of a slog to get through. Maybe because I expected more Vampires + Vampire action but at the halfway point we've met all of one vampire (whom we've barely interacted with) and otherwise only talked about vamps? Idk but I'll definitely be finishing it.

You can't compare a book to The Mummy and expect me to not read it 👀
