While I was swimming this morning some bastard stole my bag with my towel, clothes, running shoes, glasses, and a copy of this book, which I'm rereading. Fortunately, I own 3 other editions of Gulliver's Travels.

I read this a while back as an audiobook but it was too impressionistic to work in that format for me. Giving it another go.

Not loving this so far.

Not sure I know what's going on but the cover is fire.

I'm not getting anything I didn't already know about Austen's influences, but this book isn't for scholars of the C18th. I'm waiting for other audiobook holds to come in though.

Forgot I actually reread this as an adult but now I'm hooked. Good to have a small, light book to read on the train.

A relevant one, as Vancouver is a lonely city if you don't drive and are already commuting a lot for work. It's almost impossible to maintain friendships in such a spread out place. I'm interested in how the author navigates this absence of community and treats it as an opportunity.

Interesting so far, but I already could see how it could be shorter (e.g., editing some of the slow, sciency bits)

Bit the bullet and bought it as I prefer to read the book before seeing the film and I was hold #12008 (exaggeration but still pretty high) at the public library.

It is a bit slow in the middle but I am still invested.

Enjoying this so far, as it's a subtle mystery with intriguing characters and a powerful natural setting.

I know very little about this place and its people at this time, but I am drawn in, despite my ignorance.

This is what I generally need in an audiobook: one storyline, no large temporal jumps, a manageable number of characters, not too abstract and not too long.

Already hooked on this audiobook, which is making me nostalgic for Ireland.

Not my favourite Carter. The writing is lush, but a few of these stories are either quite aimless or quite unpleasant.

I thought I might have read this before but so far, it doesn't seem familiar, except in that way that early Gothic fiction feels familiar.

After multiple tries, I am finally well into this book.

End-of-semester grading crunch comfort re-read, also revisiting because I want to finally read Twenty Years After.

Picked it up again before bed last night and STILL can't get into it. Maybe it's the short choppy, list-like sentences? Maybe it is just too close to ordinary life? I think I need to read and/reread something else. I feel I must finish it as it is a signed copy.

Will read any audiobook read by Julia Whelan. She makes you feel like you and her character are close friends. It's nice.

Enjoying this so far. I like English novels from this period. Something about the writing just works for me.

This is fine. The writing is good but I have read too much of this sort of thing already.

Just started this and am instantly drawn in. As it's Murdoch, I anticipate characters who hate each other in interesting ways.
