I am caught up in this story!

Picked it up again before bed last night and STILL can't get into it. Maybe it's the short choppy, list-like sentences? Maybe it is just too close to ordinary life? I think I need to read and/reread something else. I feel I must finish it as it is a signed copy.

Will read any audiobook read by Julia Whelan. She makes you feel like you and her character are close friends. It's nice.

Enjoying this so far. I like English novels from this period. Something about the writing just works for me.

This is fine. The writing is good but I have read too much of this sort of thing already.

It has been a million years since I read this so I felt like revisiting it during spooky season!

I wish the Vancouver Public Library had more of this series on audiobook, as these are comfort reads, which one sometimes needs!

Charmed by this from the get-go.

I love Wharton but not this book, which is very dry. She was clearly crazy about cathedrals but her interest doesn't translate into engaging reading, even though I also like cathedrals.

Loved this as a kid and have a lovely edition to give to my niece but re-reading it to make sure it's not racist, sexist, etc. first.

Immediately drawn into this storyworld!

Rereading this in anticipation of watching the 2024 film adaptation. As good as I remembered it to be.

Revisiting this because it's almost Halloween and I keep seeing bats along the canal. Also, I first listened to this one and now I'm reading the Oxford UP edition.

Incredibly readable so far and hard to put down. It's reminding me of the dark humour of Mona Awad.

Not what I expected and I dislike the dead friend and the writer who is mourning him so much that I am hate-reading out of curiousity. The friend is the kind of egomaniac professor who preys on female students. I worked with one of those and it was a nightmare.

Not my favourite Greene so far but my edition is small and portable, which is something as I like to always have a book on my person.

Was reading this in Ireland but didn't bring it back to Canada because I have the hardcover. I didn't love it at first. Was really getting into it though.

Going to abandon this, although I enjoyed another Colgan novel last year. Too much talk of weight and weight loss. I just want to hear about cupcakes!
